New bearing
One of their floating sheerlegs needed a new bearing in the main mast. This concerned scheduled maintenance in March 2022. The main boom was fixed in a fixed position prior to dismantling the pin. After the pin was removed by our company with the thermal lance, the bore was machined. This way of working guarantees a clean fit of the new parts, so that they will function without problems for many years to come.
Large shaft also suitable for a thermal lance
Prior to the work, non-destructive testing was carried out on the shaft, which had a size of ø450x2000mm. This showed that grooves had formed in the fit and shaft where the main boom pivots around the shaft. Normal disassembly was therefore ruled out in advance. For the sake of a smooth turnaround time for the planned maintenance, it was already decided in the preliminary phase to use the thermal lance for Hebolift 9.
Tricky job
The shaft has been provided with a continuous vertical cut in the longitudinal direction by us with the thermal lance, which has been applied with the thermal lance. Subsequently, this cut was flowed precisely against the fit. This way the pin could shrink and there was room to remove the axle. A difficult job given the shaft length of two meters. This length prevents the easy flow out of liquid slag which is formed during thermal lance. After the ash has cooled down, it is with a 200 Tons of hydraulic pulling jack removed by us.
Accurate thermal lance of a pin against the fit requires a great deal of experience and a thorough knowledge of the behavior of the flow patterns in the arc of the lance. Damage to a pass occurs in a fraction of a second. Thanks to our extensive experience, we were also able to successfully complete this project.
